Sargent & Greenleaf Ships D-Drive&™ Safe Locks

D-Drive KeypadD-Drive Lock Body

Sargent & Greenleaf has begun shipping the new Z02 and Z03 D-Drive electronic safe locks. These models are the first S&G electronic locks that retract the lock bolts by turning the keypad ring after entering a valid code. This makes the lock much less sensitive to bolt side pressure problems, and even allows safe boltwork to be attached directly to the end of the lock bolt. In fact, drilled and tapped holes are present in all the lock bolts (M4-.7 on 15 mm centers) for just this purpose.

Competitive designs for direct drive electronic safe locks have exhibited problems with cable fatigue due to repetitive rotation of the keypad over time. The S&G D-Drive system is engineered to protect the lock cable within a deep channel that runs the entire length of the drive spindle. This also protects the cable from sharp edges and burrs that may be present in the safe door. The new S&G product should prove to be much more robust than other locks of similar design.

D-Drive Battery Compartment

The low profile, one-battery keypad that was developed for this product features a unique battery compartment design. A spring-loaded tab at the top of the pad is pulled forward, allowing the keypad to turn slightly counterclockwise, then come forward to reveal the battery and its snap-on connector. The design allows for fast, easy battery changing, as well as very dependable electrical connection. There is also an option to locate a single 9-volt battery inside the safe, in a special battery box, rather than in the keypad. In the event that the internal battery weakens to the point where it will no longer open the lock, a 9-volt battery can be installed in the keypad to open the safe.

The S&G D-Drive locks offer the same programming capabilities as the current 6123 (this is the Z02) and the 6124 (this is the Z03). The introduction of this new product line gives our customers more options, and makes it unnecessary for them to look elsewhere to meet their needs for a direct drive lock system.

For details on these new locks, view the Z02 D-Drive information sheet or the Z03 D-Drive sheet.
